Profile
A beautiful, less busy, lake in the stunning Lake District. The path around the lake is relatively flat and easy for small legs. There are some lovely swimming beaches (though the water can be chilly), and the further around the west shore you go, the quieter it is. There is a paid carpark, but also a series of free parking areas round the east of the lake (though on hot summer days you might need to get there early to find a spot) and the bus from Cockermouth goes by too. Walking distance to Buttermere if you really want to do that, but with it comes many people. Destination marker is approximate location of free parking! There is a marked path from the farm, over the ridge and down to the lake. If you need a flat path, look at Lanthwaite Wood National Trust carpark (paid).
