Less busy than other areas of the Lake District, but just as beautiful. If you are staying somewhere locally during the summer you can turn up at one of the carparks about 4.30pm for an evening swim/picnic, and it is much quieter, and light until about 10pm!

Plus, you can ask the excavating archaeologists as many questions as you like!

I realise you can't take them everywhere and they weigh a bit, but for those of us that like a proper book rather than an electronic one, second-hand bookstores are wonderful.
